When we were Married
The wood panelled hall of Acton Reynald Hall, just off A49 at Hadnall, once again provides the setting for Shawbury Village Players Summer production of this classic British farce by J B Priestley by very kind permission of the owners Chris and Judith Mackley and directed by Richard Bray.
A group of old friends, three Yorkshire couples, all married on the same day in the same chapel, gather at the Helliwell home to celebrate their silver wedding only to discover that they were never legally married. Pandemonium breaks out when these pillars of society believe they have been living in sin for twenty five years! Social embarrassment and Victorian horror is followed by a dawning awareness that their lives have been overturned and each couple starts to re-evaluate their marriage.
In the end of course, everything turns out well, and the play ends on a happy note.
