SVP Autumn Newsletter

Dear All,

The last few months have flown by and I felt I should write in my role as Chair of Shawbury Players to bring you up to date with events. In July the group performed Shakespeare’s play The Merry Wives of Windsor at Acton Reynald Hall. A large number of members took part including backstage, technical and front of house teams. The play was well received and audiences left having enjoyed the performances. As director my thanks go to all of you who were involved.

In September the Youth Drama Workshops came to an end. These were held every Sunday in the village hall and were well attended. My thanks go to all those adults who planned and lead these sessions giving freely of their time. Many of the young people taking part in these activities have now joined the cast of our pantomime.

And that leads me on to the Panto ‘Cinderella’ which is now in rehearsal. The Pantomime is being directed by Grace Jackson with help from a production committee. I know rehearsals are going well and reaching the point when scripts should be put down! Tickets are now on sale and I would ask you to encourage your family and friends to buy tickets. The performances will be on January 5th, 6th and 7th with a matinee on Saturday afternoon.

During the early stages of rehearsals for the Panto we had another play in production. Ben Leach directed ‘All the Great Books’ which was performed over four nights at the end of September and beginning of October. The play a comedy, reviewed well known classic books at a startling pace with Clare Nicholson, Jenny Dunn and Callum Jenks delivering excellent performances. The play was also seen by a NODA representative who praised the production. The backstage crew gave tremendous support for this fast moving romp through classic literature. My thanks go to Ben and all those involved in what was an excellent production.

Over the last months a regular monthly quiz has been organized by Lisa Palmer on behalf of S.V.P. These have been well attended and raise considerable funds for the group. My thanks go to Lisa for all her hard work. If you have not taken part come along and join in. I’m sure you will enjoy the evenings.

Following the plays and preparing for the Panto members have been having a ‘tidy up’ of our store room in the hall. Many of you will be aware that over the years considerable resources have been acquired by the group. All these costumes and props are being organised to make it easier to access by Chris Fraser our new costume co-ordinator. Many thanks to all who have helped with this task.

Looking beyond the Panto initial plans are being made to perform an Agatha Christie play in the summer. Members will shortly be informed of the audition date for those who wish to take part.

Finally my thanks go to all the Committee Members who help ensure that the group continues to thrive.
