Aladdin 2014

Date: 1st – 4th January 2014

Location: Shawbury Village Hall

Director: Ann Page

Based on the traditional story of Aladdin with the usual panto characters of Widow Twankey, the local laundrywoman, Abanazar – the wicked magician seeking the magic lamp that contains the all-powerful Genie so that he can rule the world, and local lad Aladdin who needs to find a fortune to wed his beloved Princess.  Add into the mix Wishee-Washee – his amiable brother, Abanazar’s assistant NastyPong, a feisty Genie of the Ring, and a loud and impressive Genie of the Lamp and you have an entertaining story for all the family.  We have added a Royal Family of Empress, two sisters-in-law, and the young Princess’s own sister, SoWise. Plus an amorous beau from afar, the Sultan of Omar who comes accompanied by a Sultana, and a lively chorus.  And ruling the roost in the Palace with the help of PingPong is the Grand Vizier.  Songs, silliness and audience participation, with all the fairy tale magic of traditional pantomime.
